Endometriosis diagnoses can only be confirmed through minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. While sufferers of this painful condition may see relief as their immediate concern, we focus on the present and beyond. Once a diagnosis has been confirmed, it is crucial that treatment be conducted using procedures that provide the best chance of maintaining future fertility.

No other NYC area practice is more experienced than Kofinas Fertility Group in conducting these procedures while keeping the patient’s future fertility intact.

Endometriosis is a painful, chronic disease that affects at least 6.3 million women and girls in the US, and millions more around the globe. It occurs when cells that make up the uterine lining (tissue called the endometrium) are found outside the uterus. Most often these cells are found in the abdomen on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, the area between the vagina and the rectum, the outer surface of the uterus, and/or the lining of the pelvic cavity. This misplaced tissue develops into growths or lesions which respond to the menstrual cycle each month in the same way as do cells found in the uterus, causing internal bleeding which, unlike uterine blood flow, has no evacuation route. This causes widespread pain and complications.
